There’s little to beat a wonderful home on the beach filled with warmth and laughter on a sun-filled but chilly winter’s day. Here in Kommetjie in South Africa’s Western Cape our average daytime temperature in the winter months is around 20 deg C. It can get as warm as 24 deg C, but it can also plummet to the low to mid teens too!
Winter in South Africa officially kicks off on 1 June and lasts till spring arrives on 1 September! Our winters are generally mild and the climate here in Kommetjie is often compared to that of the Mediterranean, making it the perfect time for long walks on the beach, hiking and exploring the amazing landscapes around us and venturing out on day trips to nearby places of interest.
The house itself is built for entertaining and enjoying an indoor/outdoor lifestyle. Just steps from Long Beach, the views are spectacular and there’s lots of space to just relax and kick back and ease into the beach vibe of simple, barefoot luxury.
A covered braai area on a beautiful enclosed verandah makes it easy to cook up a storm even when storms prevail! The main lounge area with its open fireplace is perfect for cooler evenings and a pot belly stove in the corner of the kitchen makes it one of the best places in the house to gather for good food and great conversation!
And at the end of the day, as the sun begins to set, grabbing a bottle or two of bubbly, sticks and marshmallows and building a bonfire in the dunes is a wonderful way to experience the magic of beach life!
Fin Whale’s beautiful kitchen has been custom-designed with entertaining in mind. Its modern, open plan style and huge dining table make it a huge drawcard and the heart of this beautiful beach house. Self-catering is always made easy when you have a great kitchen at your disposal, equipped with the best appliances and thoughtfully laid out.
Outside, the stunning timber bar area adjacent to the sparkling swimming pool is also perfect for sundowners or just enjoying a cold beer or G&T on a warm, sunny day. When the glass doors are all opened, the covered verandah becomes a wonderfully shaded outdoor lounge area, with its farmstyle table and benches and comfy L-shaped couch.
